If you start with global warming, there are many causes of global warming, not just carbon dioxide, so carbon dioxide is not broader than global warming. Greenhouse gases as a term is broader than carbon dioxide, but not broader than global warming as greenhouse gases are only one factor in global warming, although an important one.
ReplyDeleteGoing in the other direction, that is, narrowing, if you are starting with global warming, extinction could be an outcome of global warming, but it's not a narrower topic within global warming; it's a potential result. The same is true of the the world ending, which is broader than extinction. A species, all species, could be rendered extinct, but the world could still continue lifeless. The ending of the world, therefore, would be broader.
Here is your "line-up" from broad to narrow:
global warming
Greenhouse gases
carbon dioxide
and, in a different string
the end of the world
extinction
Each topic must "nest" inside the one above it. If you were to stay with global warming, which looks to me to be your starting topic, and you used greenhouse gases as your smaller topic and carbon dioxide as your even smaller topic, what could you pick that is a) larger and b) even larger?
I should say that your questions will probably work as good searches in the catalog and in the databases, when we get to them in a couple of weeks.
